Acceleration Rules & Procedures
Students in DoDDS High Schools may request assignments and tests for full credit in relation to transfer before the end of a school semester under the following conditions:
- Sponsor (parent) will be returning to the United States within twenty (20) school days before the end of the school semester. A copy of the sponsor's PCS orders or other official documents will be required. The earliest dates a student may leave school for the respective semester under the acceleration program are determined by DoDEA Regulation.
- Application for the accelerated program is made to the guidance office a minimum of one month before date of rotation. (Example: A person rotating on 29 May must apply by 29 April.) A student's sponsor must bring a copy of the orders to the guidance office to start the acceleration process. They must obtain approval of the acceleration process by all subject teachers and the building principal in writing. The student must complete the designated requirements as requested by the teachers to include the final exam.
- If the above conditions are met, additional assignments will be given to cover the course work within the remaining twenty (20) school days, and an examination will be given before the student leaves. The mark will be based upon a combination of the following: (1) the evaluation of advance work; (2) the results of the examination; and (3) the records in the regular class work up to that point in the semester.
"The provision for permitting the early withdrawal of students with full Carnegie credit is based on careful consideration of the unique circumstances found in the DoDEA system. It recognizes that due to military necessity, families are occasionally required to move prior to the end of the school year and that children should not be penalized for this. The 20-day limit provides reasonable flexibility without compromising academic standards or placing the student in an untenable position in regard to mastery of curriculum content. This provision has never been intended to apply to, or be extended for the convenience of family travel, visits or other discretionary reasons. The policy therefore requires that students present verification of the date of their sponsor's departure, i.e., PCS or other official orders, to school officials in order to receive consideration for full academic credit. Students who withdraw prior to the 20 day limit receive a "withdrawal" grade rather than a final grade and no make up privileges."
