Distance Learning
Distance Education, provided by the DoDEA Online Learning Academy (OLA) is an option for students when:
A course is offered by OLA, but is not offered at the local school
A course is offered by the local school, but scheduling conflicts do not allow the student to fit the course into his/her schedule.
To be successful in a Distance Learning course requires a student to
- have a high level of self-motivation
- be able to read and understand directions
- learn material without direct guidance of a local teacher
- be proactive in his/her own education
- ask questions of the teacher, and seek local help when needed
Successful DL students check into their class site daily, even when on block schedule, and are willing and able to ask questions via computer, telephone, and instant messaging. They should read all communications posted by the instructor.
The local facilitator will be sure that all the technological and resource requirements are taken care of, and will arrange for a local mentor teacher to help each student with content area questions.
