National Honor Society
The Bison Chapter of the National Honor Society has been a part of Mannheim High School student life for over 35 years.
In order to be nominated students must exhibit the qualities of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Specific requirements for membership include a GPA of 3.4 or higher, active participation in at least two extracurricular activities a year, (at least one of these must be for Mannheim High School; verifiable community activities may be accepted), attendance at Mannheim High School for at least a quarter, and must be in grade 10 or above.
All students with the appropriate GPA are nominated for membership. Each candidate completes an information sheet and receives the endorsement of several teachers. A faculty committee meets to select the new members for induction based on the four qualities listed above.
Students who transfer to Mannheim from a sister chapter of the Honor Society are automatically members of the Bison Chapter until/unless they no longer meet the requirements of the Bison Chapter
The annual induction is held in November after first quarter grades have been averaged into the GPA.
Leadership Conference
In October of each year The National Honor Society will be hosts its annual leadership conference. Mannheim High School’s leaders will participate in leadership skill building classes taught by current NHS members. The school leaders and potential leaders learn new skills and connect with each other. The classes taught include Leadership Styles, Decision-making, Cooperation and Communication.
